A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the inclusion of certain courses and activities for
  certain public school students in the calculation of the required
  minutes of instruction.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
         (a-1)  For purposes of this section, the number of minutes of
  instruction that a student receives under Subsection (a) includes:
               (1)  time allocated by the district for a high school
  student to receive credit for:
                     (A)  a dual credit course;
                     (B)  an accelerated instruction program;
                     (C)  an electronic course, as that term is defined
  by Section 30A.001; or
                     (D)  any internship, course, or activity approved
  for credit by the district; or
               (2)  the amount of time scheduled for the
  administration of a final high school course examination for a
  student who has received an exemption from the examination by
  satisfying any attendance and grade requirements specified by the
  district. 
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018
  school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
