A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the inclusion of certain courses and activities for |
|
certain public school students in the calculation of the required |
|
minutes of instruction. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
(a-1) For purposes of this section, the number of minutes of |
|
instruction that a student receives under Subsection (a) includes: |
|
(1) time allocated by the district for a high school |
|
student to receive credit for: |
|
(A) a dual credit course; |
|
(B) an accelerated instruction program; |
|
(C) an electronic course, as that term is defined |
|
by Section 30A.001; or |
|
(D) any internship, course, or activity approved |
|
for credit by the district; or |
|
(2) the amount of time scheduled for the |
|
administration of a final high school course examination for a |
|
student who has received an exemption from the examination by |
|
satisfying any attendance and grade requirements specified by the |
|
district. |

SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018 |
|
school year. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
