A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the eligibility of certain entities for grants awarded |
|
|
by the criminal justice division of the governor's office. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 772.006, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: |
|
|
(g) The criminal justice division may not award a grant to |
|
|
the Department of Public Safety, the Texas Department of Criminal |
|
|
Justice, a police department of a municipality with a population of |
|
|
800,000 or more, or a sheriff's department of a county with a |
|
|
population of one million or more unless the department is a party |
|
|
to an agreement with the United States Secretary of Homeland |
|
|
Security and United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement |
|
|
under Section 287(g), Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. |
|
|
Section 1357). |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to a grant application submitted to the criminal justice division |
|
|
of the governor's office on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|
|
A grant application submitted before the effective date of this Act |
|
|
is governed by the law in effect on the date the application was |
|
|
submitted, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
