A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the secretary of state adopting a fee schedule for |
|
|
notary public services. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 406, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 406.027 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 406.027. NOTARY PUBLIC FEE SCHEDULE. (a) The |
|
|
secretary of state by rule shall adopt a fee schedule for notary |
|
|
public services. |
|
|
(b) The fee schedule must: |
|
|
(1) set fees that are fair and reasonable; and |
|
|
(2) assure the public's access to a notary public. |
|
|
(c) The secretary of state may adjust the fee schedule |
|
|
adopted under this section each calendar year as necessary to |
|
|
reflect inflation. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 406.024, Government Code, is repealed. |
|
|
SECTION 3. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|
|
of this Act, the secretary of state shall adopt rules necessary to |
|
|
implement Section 406.027, Government Code, as added by this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
