A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to additional state aid for school districts that provide |
|
|
social security coverage for district employees. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 42, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 42.25141 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 42.25141. ADDITIONAL STATE AID FOR SOCIAL SECURITY |
|
|
CONTRIBUTIONS. (a) This section applies only to a school district |
|
|
that provided social security coverage, as defined by Section |
|
|
606.001, Government Code, for district employees during the 2016 |
|
|
calendar year. |
|
|
(b) For each school year, a school district, including a |
|
|
school district that is otherwise ineligible for state aid under |
|
|
this chapter, is entitled to state aid in an amount equal to 50 |
|
|
percent of the district's cost of paying contributions in the |
|
|
2017-2018 and each subsequent school year for a class of employees |
|
|
covered under the social security program during the 2016 calendar |
|
|
year. |

|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
