A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to policies and procedures for the issuance of personal |
|
|
bonds in certain counties. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 17, Code of Criminal Procedure, is |
|
|
amended by adding Article 17.034 to read as follows: |
|
|
Art. 17.034. RELEASE ON PERSONAL BOND IN CERTAIN COUNTIES. |
|
|
Notwithstanding any other law, the sheriff of a county with a |
|
|
population of 700,000 or more but less than 780,000 may, with the |
|
|
consent of the attorney representing the state in that county, |
|
|
develop policies and procedures for the release of defendants on |
|
|
personal bond if necessary to alleviate overcrowding in the county |
|
|
jail. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
