A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the form of a candidate's name on a ballot. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 52.031, Election Code, is amended by |
|
|
amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(a) A candidate's name shall be printed on the ballot with |
|
|
the given name or initials first, followed by a nickname, if any, |
|
|
followed by the surname, including any married name, in accordance |
|
|
with this section. |
|
|
(a-1) A person may use any surname acquired by law or |
|
|
marriage. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
