A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
| |
|
|
relating to the issuance of childhood cancer awareness license |
|
|
plates. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 504, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 504.655 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 504.655. CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS PLATES. (a) The |
|
|
department shall issue specialty license plates to raise awareness |
|
|
of childhood cancer. The department shall design the license |
|
|
plates in consultation with an organization that seeks to raise |
|
|
awareness of childhood cancer in this state. |
|
|
(b) After deduction of the department's administrative |
|
|
costs, the remainder of the fee for issuance of the license plates |
|
|
shall be deposited to the credit of an account created by the |
|
|
comptroller in the manner provided by Section 504.6012(b). Money |
|
|
deposited to that account may be used by the General Land Office |
|
|
only to provide grants to benefit organizations operating in this |
|
|
state that raise awareness of, conduct research on, or provide |
|
|
services for persons diagnosed with childhood cancer. |
|
|
(c) The General Land Office and an organization that |
|
|
receives a grant under Subsection (b) may enter into a memorandum of |
|
|
understanding establishing the respective duties of the General |
|
|
Land Office and the organization in relation to carrying out the |
|
|
purposes of that subsection. |
|
|
(d) Section 504.702 does not apply to a specialty license |
|
|
plate issued under this section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The General Land Office and an organization that |
|
|
receives a grant under Section 504.655, Transportation Code, as |
|
|
added by this Act, are not required to adopt a new memorandum of |
|
|
understanding under that section if a previous memorandum of |
|
|
understanding adopted by the General Land Office and the |
|
|
organization accomplishes the purposes of that section. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
