A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study conducted by the Texas Education Agency on the |
|
financial costs of providing educational services to persons who |
|
are not lawfully present in the United States. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. STUDY ON COST OF PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL SERVICES |
|
TO PERSONS NOT LAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES. The Texas |
|
Education Agency shall conduct a study to determine the financial |
|
costs incurred by the agency and by public school districts |
|
statewide during the 2017-2018 school year as a result of providing |
|
educational services to persons who are not lawfully present in the |
|
United States. |
|
SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2018, the |
|
agency shall deliver a report of the agency's findings to the |
|
governor, lieutenant governor, and the speaker of the house of |
|
representatives. The agency shall publish the report on the |
|
agency's Internet website. |
|
SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires February 1, 2019. |
|
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
|
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
|
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
|
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
|
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
