A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a study by the Department of Agriculture of the transfer |
|
|
of water from the Mississippi River. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. (a) In this section, "department" means the |
|
|
Department of Agriculture. |
|
|
(b) The department shall conduct a study of the feasibility |
|
|
of and the costs and benefits associated with the transfer of water |
|
|
from the Mississippi River to this state by an underground aqueduct |
|
|
or covered canal. |
|
|
(c) In conducting the study, the department shall consult |
|
|
with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Texas Water |
|
|
Development Board, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and |
|
|
the appropriate governmental agencies of any state that would be |
|
|
affected by the transfer. |
|
|
(d) The department may accept grants or private donations |
|
|
for the purposes of conducting the study under this section. |
|
|
(e) Not later than January 1, 2019, the department shall |
|
|
submit to the legislature a report containing the findings of the |
|
|
study conducted under this section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act expires January 2, 2019. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
