A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to permits for certain vehicles being operated in |
|
|
connection with a motor sports racing event. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 623, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 623.0172 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 623.0172. MOTOR SPORTS RACING EVENT PERMIT. (a) In |
|
|
this section, "motor sports racing event" means an automobile |
|
|
racing event and all activities leading up to that event, including |
|
|
administration, testing, practice, promotion, and merchandising, |
|
|
that is sanctioned by the Automobile Competition Committee for the |
|
|
United States (ACCUS). |
|
|
(b) The department shall issue a permit that allows a person |
|
|
to operate over a state highway or road a combination of vehicles |
|
|
that exceeds the length limit provided by law if the combination of |
|
|
vehicles: |
|
|
(1) does not exceed 85 feet in length; and |
|
|
(2) is being operated: |
|
|
(A) for personal, noncommercial use; and |
|
|
(B) primarily or exclusively in connection with a |
|
|
motor sports racing event. |
|
|
(c) A permit issued under this section: |
|
|
(1) is valid for 15 days; and |
|
|
(2) must be carried in the vehicle for which it is |
|
|
issued. |
|
|
(d) A person is not eligible for a permit under this section |
|
|
if, during the preceding 12 months, the person has been issued a |
|
|
permit under this section five or more times. |
|
|
(e) The department may adopt rules necessary to implement |
|
|
this section, including rules governing the application for a |
|
|
permit under this section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
