A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to providing or administering low-THC cannabis to a child
  for whom the low-THC cannabis was prescribed.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 487.001, Health and Safety Code, is
  amended by adding Subdivision (5) to read as follows:
               (5)  "Child" means a person under 18 years of age.
         SECTION 2.  Subchapter B, Chapter 487, Health and Safety
  Code, is amended by adding Section 487.055 to read as follows:
         Sec. 487.055.  PROVISION OR ADMINISTRATION TO CHILD. It is
  not child abuse or neglect, as those terms are defined under Section
  261.001, Family Code, for a parent or other caregiver to provide or
  administer low-THC cannabis to a child for whom the low-THC
  cannabis was prescribed under Chapter 169, Occupations Code.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
