A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the provision of family preservation services by the |
|
Department of Family and Protective Services to certain high-risk |
|
families. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 264, Family Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 264.2012 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 264.2012. FAMILY PRESERVATION SERVICES. In the five |
|
areas of the state that have the highest number of high-risk |
|
families determined by zip code, the department shall implement an |
|
evidence-based program that provides frequent in-home visits with |
|
families who have a history of child abuse or neglect or who display |
|
risk factors for child abuse or neglect with the goal of improving |
|
family preservation and family reunification. The program must |
|
contain guidelines for the frequency of monthly contact by the |
|
department with the family, based on the risk factors for child |
|
abuse and neglect in each case. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
