A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a requirement that each state university provide to a |
|
student certain employment data relating to the student's major |
|
field of study. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 51.9196 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 51.9196. REQUIRED EMPLOYMENT DATA FOR NEW STUDENTS |
|
REGARDING MAJOR FIELD OF STUDY. (a) In this section, "general |
|
academic teaching institution" and "public state college" have the |
|
meanings assigned by Section 61.003. |
|
(b) As soon as practicable following the student's |
|
enrollment, each general academic teaching institution other than a |
|
public state college shall provide to each first-time entering |
|
undergraduate student, including each undergraduate student who |
|
transfers to the institution, information, in electronic or paper |
|
format, relating to the student's major field of study from the |
|
Texas Consumer Resource for Education and Workforce Statistics |
|
("Texas CREWS") report on gainful employment applicable to the |
|
institution for the most recent year for which that information is |
|
available. |
|
(c) If a student to whom an institution is required to |
|
provide information under this section has not chosen a major field |
|
of study, the institution shall provide to the student an Internet |
|
website link to the Texas CREWS report on gainful employment |
|
applicable to the institution for the most recent year for which |
|
that information is available. |
|
SECTION 2. Section 51.9196, Education Code, as added by |
|
this Act, applies beginning with the 2017 fall semester. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
