A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a study on public drinking water infrastructure by the |
|
|
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 341, Health and Safety |
|
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 341.0312 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 341.0312. STUDY ON PUBLIC DRINKING WATER |
|
|
INFRASTRUCTURE. (a) The commission shall study the public |
|
|
drinking water infrastructure in this state and provide a |
|
|
recommended schedule for improving the infrastructure. The study |
|
|
must examine and provide recommendations regarding: |
|
|
(1) problems with the public drinking water |
|
|
infrastructure in this state; |
|
|
(2) potential improvements to or repairs needed for |
|
|
the public drinking water infrastructure, including old pipe or |
|
|
drainage systems; |
|
|
(3) the effect of the public drinking water |
|
|
infrastructure on public drinking water quality; and |
|
|
(4) any improvement to the public drinking water |
|
|
infrastructure necessary to ensure public drinking water continues |
|
|
to meet the standards required by Section 341.031. |
|
|
(b) Not later than December 1, 2018, the commission shall |
|
|
report the results of the study, the commission's findings, and any |
|
|
recommendations to the legislature. |
|
|
(c) This section expires September 1, 2019. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
