A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the powers and duties of a commissioners court to levy |
|
|
and collect taxes on behalf of a navigation district. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 62.160, Water Code, is amended to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
Sec. 62.160. MAINTENANCE TAX. (a) The commissioners courts |
|
|
of the respective counties inside each district may levy and have |
|
|
assessed and collected for the maintenance, operation, and upkeep |
|
|
of the district and the improvements constructed by the district an |
|
|
annual tax not to exceed 10 cents on the $100 valuation on all |
|
|
property inside the district. |
|
|
(b) In the event of the tax being suspended by a district |
|
|
located in a county with a population of not less than 400,000 and |
|
|
not more than 4 million that borders the Gulf of Mexico, or a county |
|
|
that borders the Gulf of Mexico and is adjacent to such a county, |
|
|
the tax may be reinstated upon request by the district to the county |
|
|
tax assessor-collector. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
