A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to verification of eligibility for the school lunch |
|
|
program. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 12, Agriculture Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 12.00292 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 12.00292. VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY FOR SCHOOL LUNCH |
|
|
PROGRAM. To the extent allowed by federal law, the department shall |
|
|
verify, or require local educational agencies to verify, the income |
|
|
of each applicant for the school lunch program under 42 U.S.C. |
|
|
Section 1751 et seq. whose eligibility under the school lunch |
|
|
program is not based on an eligible program that may be used for |
|
|
direct verification purposes under 7 C.F.R. Section 245.6a. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
