A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to jail administrators in certain counties. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 351.042, Local Government Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 351.042. JAIL ADMINISTRATOR IN CERTAIN COUNTIES [BEXAR
|
|
|
COUNTY]. The commissioners court [Commissioners Court] of a county |
|
|
with a population of not less than 1.7 million [Bexar County] may |
|
|
appoint a jail administrator who shall exercise all power, |
|
|
supervision, and control over the jail, including the duties |
|
|
imposed by law on the sheriff with respect to the jail. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
