A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to jail administrators in certain counties.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 351.042, Local Government Code, is
  amended to read as follows:
         Sec. 351.042.  JAIL ADMINISTRATOR IN CERTAIN COUNTIES [BEXAR
  COUNTY]. The commissioners court [Commissioners Court] of a county
  with a population of not less than 1.7 million [Bexar County] may
  appoint a jail administrator who shall exercise all power,
  supervision, and control over the jail, including the duties
  imposed by law on the sheriff with respect to the jail.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
