A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the Paris Junior College District. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 130, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 130.0829 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 130.0829. GOVERNING BOARD OF PARIS JUNIOR COLLEGE |
|
|
DISTRICT. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this |
|
|
subchapter, the governing board of the Paris Junior College |
|
|
District by resolution or order of the board may decrease the number |
|
|
of board members from nine to seven, with four members elected from |
|
|
respective commissioner precincts and three members elected at |
|
|
large. A resolution or order of the governing board under this |
|
|
subsection must establish transition terms of office to conform to |
|
|
elections held in even-numbered years and staggered six-year terms. |
|
|
(b) Notwithstanding Section 41.0052, Election Code, the |
|
|
governing board of the Paris Junior College District by resolution |
|
|
or order may change the date on which the district holds its general |
|
|
election for board members to the November uniform election date. |
|
|
The governing board shall adjust the terms of office to conform to a |
|
|
change made to the election date under this subsection. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
