A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature |
|
to exempt from ad valorem taxation by one or more political |
|
subdivisions of this state property located near a public school |
|
that is owned for the purpose of building low-income or |
|
moderate-income housing. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 1-v to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 1-v. (a) The legislature by general law may exempt from |
|
ad valorem taxation by one or more political subdivisions of this |
|
state property located near a public school that is owned by a |
|
person for the purpose of building low-income or moderate-income |
|
housing on the property. |
|
(b) The legislature may provide additional eligibility |
|
requirements for an exemption authorized by this section. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2017. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the |
|
legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation by one or more |
|
political subdivisions of this state property located near a public |
|
school that is owned for the purpose of building low-income or |
|
moderate-income housing." |
