R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Glen Clay Richardson of Sonora on October 4, 2016, at the |
|
age of 90; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Verlew and Esther Richardson, Glen |
|
Richardson was born in Sonora on December 2, 1925; he graduated from |
|
Sonora High School and went on to attend Texas A&M University, where |
|
he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, the Aggie Band, and the |
|
livestock judging team; moreover, he excelled in track and field |
|
and won the conference high jump championship; coming of age during |
|
World War II, he interrupted his education to enlist in the United |
|
States Navy, and after serving his country, he completed his |
|
bachelor's degree in animal husbandry; he made many lasting |
|
friendships during his years at A&M; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Richardson taught classes at the Texas A&M |
|
Adjunct campus in Junction and began ranching in Edwards County; in |
|
1954, he married the love of his life, the former Rosalie Friend; |
|
they were blessed with twin sons, Wade and Wesley, and their family |
|
later grew to include three grandchildren, Kyle, Clay, and Codi, as |
|
well as great-grandchildren, West, Sailor, Kyle, Brynn, and Walker; |
|
friendly and generous to all, the Richardsons welcomed countless |
|
guests to their Rocksprings Ranch through the years, particularly |
|
at their annual Fourth of July weekend gathering; and |
|
WHEREAS, For a half century, Mr. Richardson devoted himself |
|
to refining his Hereford cattle and Angora goat herds, and he took |
|
special pride in marketing his Champion F-1 Braford heifers at |
|
select sales across the state; he was a member of the Texas Sheep |
|
and Goat Raisers Association and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle |
|
Raisers Association; a respected member of the community, he served |
|
as a trustee of the Federal Land Bank and Sonora Bank, and he was a |
|
lifelong member of the Sonora First United Methodist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Glen Richardson treasured the time he spent in the |
|
company of his family and friends, and those he leaves behind will |
|
forever cherish their memories of this kind and caring man; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glen Clay Richardson |
|
and extend deepest condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Glen Clay |
|
Richardson. |
