R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Delnor Poss is retiring as head coach of the men's
  golf team at Midland College on May 31, 2017, drawing to a close a
  remarkable career with that institution that has spanned four
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, After graduating from San Angelo Central High
  School, Mr. Poss earned a bachelor's degree in business
  administration from Hardin-Simmons University, where he was a
  member of the basketball and track and field teams, and he
  subsequently received a master's degree in education from Sul Ross
  State University; he began his coaching career at Big Spring High
  School before joining the faculty of Midland College as director of
  athletics and men's golf coach in 1977; and
         WHEREAS, At the helm of the golf program, Coach Poss has
  compiled an impressive list of accomplishments, guiding Chaparral
  athletes to 29 consecutive appearances in the NJCAA National Men's
  Golf Tournament and winning 4 championships, as well as more than
  250 tournament titles overall; moreover, he has coached 49
  All-Americans, and many of his athletes have gone on to enjoy
  professional golf careers and to compete in major PGA tournaments;
  he also garnered international acclaim by coaching Team USA to a
  gold medal at the 1996 World University Games in Switzerland; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Poss has further benefited Texas athletics as
  a football and basketball referee for several college athletic
  conferences, as president of the Southwest Basketball Officials
  Association, and as a member of the University Interscholastic
  League Sports Committee; in recognition of his many achievements,
  he has been inducted into the Midland College Athletic Hall of Fame,
  the NJCAA Hall of Fame, the Hardin-Simmons University Athletic Hall
  of Fame, the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame, and
  the San Angelo Central High School Hall of Fame, and he was
  presented with an NJCAA Athletic Directors Achievement Award in
  1995; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, this esteemed Texan is blessed
  with the love and support of his wife of 62 years, Martha, and he
  takes tremendous pride in his children, Nathan, Dell, and Mark, his
  daughters-in-law, Peggy Ann and Marla, and his grandchildren, Emil
  and Alexandra; and
         WHEREAS, With his exceptional ability to teach and motivate,
  Delnor Poss has created a notable legacy at Midland College, and he
  may indeed reflect with satisfaction on his long and successful
  career as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Delnor Poss on his retirement as
  head coach of the Midland College men's golf team and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Poss as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
