R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A. C. Gonzalez is retiring as city manager of Dallas
  in January 2017, drawing to a close an outstanding career in public
  service; and
         WHEREAS, After earning his bachelor's degree from The
  University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Gonzalez went on to receive a
  master's degree in urban studies from Trinity University; in 1974,
  at age 23, he became one of the youngest city managers in the
  country when he began his career in Dilley; and
         WHEREAS, He led city governments in Carrizo Springs and San
  Marcos until he embarked on his notable tenure with the City of
  Dallas in 1988 as assistant city manager; he further honed his
  administrative skills as deputy superintendent and superintendent
  of the Austin Independent School District and as president of a
  privately owned investment company before returning to Dallas in
  2006; and
         WHEREAS, On January 21, 2014, after seven months as interim
  city manager, Mr. Gonzalez was officially appointed to the office
  of Dallas city manager; over the course of his 17 years in Dallas
  city government, this esteemed Texan has overseen a number of major
  projects, including development of the Omni Dallas Convention
  Center Hotel, management of the Love Field modernization program,
  and negotiations of the Dallas Stars Reunion Arena lease, which
  brought the professional sports franchise to the city; he also
  advocated for a federal grant that expanded streetcars in the
  downtown area and was responsible for expanding the city's tax base
  through numerous development projects; and
         WHEREAS, With his skill, dedication, and vision,
  A. C. Gonzalez has made Dallas an even better place in which to
  live, and his achievements will continue to benefit his fellow
  residents in the years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor A. C. Gonzalez on his retirement as city
  manager of Dallas and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
