R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Tommy Ramirez Jr. is retiring as chief juvenile |
|
probation officer of the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department |
|
on January 31, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, After graduating from Bryan High School, Tommy |
|
Ramirez earned a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University in |
|
1977 before going on to work in leadership roles at the Boys & Girls |
|
Clubs of Brazos Valley and San Antonio, as well as at a |
|
manufacturing company; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1986, Mr. Ramirez began his career in juvenile |
|
justice as a probation officer for Brazos County, and in July 2003, |
|
he was named chief juvenile probation officer of the Cameron County |
|
Juvenile Justice Department, where he has spent more than 13 years; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, During his time with the department, Chief Ramirez |
|
has been instrumental in the creation of Harlingen Outreach Center, |
|
and in the development and implementation of vocational training |
|
programs for indigent families and of youth and collaborative |
|
initiatives between juvenile probation officers and local schools |
|
and law enforcement agencies; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Ramirez has further contributed to his |
|
professional community by serving on the Texas Juvenile Justice |
|
Department Advisory Council and as president of the South Texas |
|
Chiefs Association, as well as through his involvement with the |
|
Juvenile Justice Association of Texas, the Texas Juvenile Detention |
|
Association, and the Texas Probation Association, which awarded him |
|
its most prestigious honor, the Amador R. Rodriguez Lifetime |
|
Achievement Award; moreover, he has sat on boards for the United Way |
|
of Northern Cameron County and the Boys & Girls Club of San Benito; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, this esteemed Texan has |
|
enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Olga, and their three |
|
children, Tiffany, Tommy, and Kevin; and |
|
WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Tommy Ramirez has dedicated |
|
his life to the well-being of the state's youth through his work |
|
with the juvenile justice system, and he may indeed reflect with |
|
great pride on a career well spent as he embarks upon the next |
|
exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Tommy Ramirez Jr. on his retirement |
|
from the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department and extend to |
|
him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Ramirez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
