R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the
  passing of Rudolph Victor Darilek of Houston on September 8, 2016,
  at the age of 94; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Ludmila and Herman Darilek, Rudy Darilek
  was born in Shiner on December 7, 1921, and grew up in Moulton; he
  ran at least three miles to Moulton High School every day, and he
  sometimes raced home to the farm to do his chores before returning
  to participate in basketball and other activities; and
         WHEREAS, After graduation, Mr. Darilek hitched a ride to
  Houston on an egg truck and joined the staff of JMH Supermarkets; he
  met the love of his life, Celestine Veselka, during a Paul Jones
  dance at the SPJST lodge, and they married on Thanksgiving Day in
  1942; during World War II, he served his country in the Pacific
  Theater as a member of the 5th Engine Overhaul Squadron, 27th Air
  Depot Group in the U.S. Army Air Corps; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Darilek returned to the grocery business,
  becoming an owner of JMH No. 5 in the West University neighborhood,
  and he was affiliated with the company for 67 years before his
  retirement; while running the store, he continued to farm and ranch
  on the family homestead in the Bauersville area; he was devoted to
  his nine children, Rose, Jo Ann, Henry, Cora, Marjorie, David,
  Thomas, Joyce, and Robert, and he not only instilled in his
  offspring respect for hard work and a strong sense of integrity but
  also ensured that they were surrounded by laughter and music;
  through the years, he welcomed 35 grandchildren, and he eventually
  became the patriarch of an extended family of 106; and
         WHEREAS, Proud of his Czech heritage, Mr. Darilek loved to go
  polka dancing with his wife and all their relatives and friends; he
  also enjoyed fishing, taking trips to the country with his
  brother-in-law, watching sports with his family, and spending time
  on the farm; and
         WHEREAS, Rudy Darilek will be deeply missed by all who were
  privileged to share in his love and friendship, but they will
  forever remember his kindness, his inspiring work ethic, and his
  wonderful sense of humor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rudolph Victor
  Darilek and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his
  passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rudy
  Darilek.
