R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Mission lost a treasured community |
|
leader with the passing of Berta Hilda Olivarez Filut on September |
|
5, 2014, at the age of 59; and |
|
WHEREAS, The former owner and operator of B&B Flowers and BP |
|
Feed Store, Bert Filut enjoyed nearly two decades leading the Texas |
|
Citrus Fiesta as its executive director; this esteemed Texan was |
|
also a valued member of the Mission Lions Club, where she held the |
|
office of secretary and received both the Jack Wiech Fellow and |
|
Melvin Jones Fellow awards; the Progress Times recognized her |
|
outstanding contributions to the community by naming her Woman of |
|
the Year; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Ms. Filut played an active |
|
role in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, serving on its |
|
finance committee and assuming responsibility for decorating the |
|
altar each holiday; she also held membership in the Holy Rosary |
|
Catholic Church Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Filut was blessed with the |
|
love and support of her husband, William "Bill" Filut, with whom she |
|
shared a rewarding union until her passing; she took great pride in |
|
her children, Vanessa Peña and Robert Peña Jr., and her |
|
stepchildren, Richard and Michelle Filut; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bert Filut lived a purposeful life of faith and |
|
service, and those who were blessed to share in her love and |
|
affection will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Berta Hilda Olivarez |
|
Filut and extend heartfelt sympathy to her family and many friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bert Filut. |
