R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Juan F. Garcia retired as the chief of the San Diego |
|
Police Department in August 2015, drawing to a close a notable |
|
career in law enforcement that spanned nearly three decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Garcia began his exemplary 29-year tenure as a |
|
peace officer in 1986, when he joined the Duval County Sheriff's |
|
Department as a reserve deputy; after a brief stint with the Freer |
|
Police Department, he served with the Alice Police Department from |
|
1991 to 2003, including five years as that department's Drug Abuse |
|
Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) officer; and |
|
WHEREAS, From 2003 to 2011, Chief Garcia was an investigator |
|
for the Duval County Sheriff's Department, where he was in charge of |
|
the tobacco sting program, among other initiatives; he was the |
|
municipal judge for the City of San Diego from 2007 to 2013, and he |
|
has also served as the school resource officer at San Diego Junior |
|
High School; in April 2013, this outstanding law enforcement |
|
professional became chief of the San Diego Police Department; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Garcia's dedication, professionalism, and |
|
commitment to protecting the public and preserving the peace have |
|
greatly benefited the citizens of San Diego and Duval County, and he |
|
may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Juan F. Garcia on his retirement as |
|
chief of police in San Diego and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Chief Garcia as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
