R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists |
|
Week is being celebrated from January 22 through 28, 2017, in |
|
recognition of the crucial work performed by practitioners of one |
|
of the oldest nursing specializations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Nurses first administered anesthesia to wounded |
|
soldiers during the Civil War, and nurse-anesthetists have been the |
|
main providers of anesthesia to U.S. military personnel on the |
|
front lines since World War I; their care continues to be essential |
|
to saving the lives of service personnel wounded in current |
|
conflicts overseas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, CRNAs safely administer approximately 43 |
|
million doses of anesthesia to patients each year; as the primary |
|
source of anesthesia care in rural areas, they enable medical |
|
facilities in underserved communities to maintain obstetric, |
|
surgical, and trauma-stabilization capabilities; in some states, |
|
CRNAs are the sole providers of anesthesia services in nearly 100 |
|
percent of rural hospitals; and |
|
WHEREAS, These dedicated professionals practice in every |
|
setting in which anesthesia is delivered, from traditional |
|
hospitals to dental and podiatric offices and ambulatory surgical |
|
centers, as well as military and Veterans Administration treatment |
|
facilities; currently, more than 4,000 CRNAs are licensed to |
|
practice in Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Nurse-anesthetists play a trusted and vital role in |
|
our state's and nation's health care systems, providing for an |
|
expanded scope of medical care in many parts of the country, and the |
|
observance of National CRNA Week offers an opportunity to honor the |
|
members of this profession for their steadfast commitment to their |
|
calling; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize January 22-28, 2017, as National |
|
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Week and extend heartfelt |
|
appreciation to the nurse-anesthetists of Texas for their crucial |
|
contribution to health care in the Lone Star State. |
