H.R. No. 157

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Deborah Cordova was named Woman of the Year by the Mission Progress Times and the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce at the annual Citizens Awards banquet in October 2016; and

WHEREAS, Each year, the Mission chamber and the newspaper recognize outstanding citizens for their efforts to benefit the local community; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Cordova has served on the Mission Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors for nine years, and she has worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the club's annual scholarship fund-raiser; in addition, she is the first woman in almost 70 years to serve as chair of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Accustomed to taking on leadership roles in the community, Ms. Cordova also chaired the first annual Wills for Heroes Clinic for Hidalgo County veterans; she further served on planning committees for the yearly Monster Bash, a fund-raiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and for the annual school supply drive for the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Hidalgo County; and

WHEREAS, Through her exceptional contributions, Deborah Cordova has helped make Mission an even better place in which to live and work, and she is indeed deserving of this notable honor; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Deborah Cordova on her selection as the 2016 Woman of the Year by the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce and the Progress Times and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Cordova as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
