R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Pioneers Youth Leadership is helping many Texas |
|
students acquire the tools they will need to serve as leaders in |
|
their communities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 2012, the nonprofit organization |
|
combines classroom study with extracurricular events in a |
|
learning-through-action civic engagement program; the program |
|
currently serves more than 300 students in 17 counties; and |
|
WHEREAS, On January 18 and 19, 2017, participants attended |
|
the State Leadership Forum at the Capitol, where they met with state |
|
lawmakers and discussed some of today's most relevant public policy |
|
topics, including technology in the classroom, access to health and |
|
mental health care, water usage and conservation, immigration, and |
|
education quality; in addition, students attended workshops and |
|
presented their own ideas to staff from various state agencies |
|
during the two-day event; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its ongoing efforts to encourage young |
|
Texans to become positive change agents in their communities, |
|
Pioneers Youth Leadership is helping to create a brighter and more |
|
promising future for the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the Pioneers Youth Leadership 2017 |
|
State Leadership Forum and recognize the organization for its |
|
contributions to the education of our young people; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Pioneers Youth Leadership as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
