R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, February 2017 has been designated National Career
  and Technical Education Month by the Association for Career and
  Technical Education; and
         WHEREAS, More than 1.2 million secondary students are
  enrolled in at least one CTE course in 1,219 school districts and
  charter schools across the state, and these classes allow students
  to gain the academic and technological skills necessary for career
  readiness; furthermore, CTE students can participate in integrated
  secondary and postsecondary curriculums that better prepare them
  for college; and
         WHEREAS, CTE programs enable students to apply the skills and
  knowledge they have acquired to real-world scenarios, and they also
  provide students with career exploration opportunities earlier in
  their educational experience; in addition to equipping
  participants with the skills to successfully enter high-demand
  career fields, CTE programs ensure that employers have access to a
  qualified workforce that can in turn contribute to American
  economic growth and global competitiveness; and
         WHEREAS, A vital part of the Texas Foundation High School
  Program, CTE programs offer students pathways to earn endorsements,
  performance acknowledgments, and industry validated credentials;
  additionally, career and technical student organizations such as
  Business Professionals of America, DECA, FFA, and SkillsUSA instill
  in their members the values and abilities that will help them become
  engaged citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Career and technical programs are fostering a
  supportive learning environment that encourages students to
  develop the proficiencies needed to build fulfilling and productive
  lives, and in so doing, they are contributing immeasurably to the
  future prosperity of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 2017 as National Career and
  Technical Education Month and encourage all Texans to learn more
  about career and technical programs in their communities.
