R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The untimely death of Dedré Plesshette Jefferson of |
|
|
Sugar Land on December 16, 2016, at the age of 48, has profoundly |
|
|
saddened the colleagues, students, and loved ones of this |
|
|
remarkable woman; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dedré Jefferson was born on September 23, 1968, in |
|
|
Wiesbaden, Germany, to Walter and Ella Caple Jefferson; a proud |
|
|
graduate of the Alief Independent School District in Houston, she |
|
|
went on to enjoy a 20-year teaching career and was serving as a |
|
|
senior career and technical education specialist for Houston ISD at |
|
|
the time of her passing; in 2015, she successfully ran for a seat on |
|
|
the Alief ISD Board of Trustees, following in the footsteps of her |
|
|
mother, a former member of the board; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Jefferson was a devoted mother to her son, |
|
|
Blake, as well as a caring mentor to countless young people whom she |
|
|
encountered through her work; admired for her radiant smile and her |
|
|
irrepressible can-do attitude, she continuously sought ways to |
|
|
support and encourage everyone around her; in addition to her |
|
|
rapport with others in the teaching profession, she maintained |
|
|
close bonds with her sisters in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and she |
|
|
was also a faithful congregant of Southwest Community Baptist |
|
|
Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the kindness and love that she shared, Dedré |
|
|
Jefferson brought a light to the world that can never be |
|
|
extinguished, and she will forever hold a cherished place in the |
|
|
hearts of those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dedré Plesshette |
|
|
Jefferson and extend deepest condolences to all those who mourn her |
|
|
passing; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dedré |
|
|
Plesshette Jefferson. |
