R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The untimely death of Dedré Plesshette Jefferson of
  Sugar Land on December 16, 2016, at the age of 48, has profoundly
  saddened the colleagues, students, and loved ones of this
  remarkable woman; and
         WHEREAS, Dedré Jefferson was born on September 23, 1968, in
  Wiesbaden, Germany, to Walter and Ella Caple Jefferson; a proud
  graduate of the Alief Independent School District in Houston, she
  went on to enjoy a 20-year teaching career and was serving as a
  senior career and technical education specialist for Houston ISD at
  the time of her passing; in 2015, she successfully ran for a seat on
  the Alief ISD Board of Trustees, following in the footsteps of her
  mother, a former member of the board; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Jefferson was a devoted mother to her son,
  Blake, as well as a caring mentor to countless young people whom she
  encountered through her work; admired for her radiant smile and her
  irrepressible can-do attitude, she continuously sought ways to
  support and encourage everyone around her; in addition to her
  rapport with others in the teaching profession, she maintained
  close bonds with her sisters in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and she
  was also a faithful congregant of Southwest Community Baptist
  Church; and
         WHEREAS, Through the kindness and love that she shared, Dedré
  Jefferson brought a light to the world that can never be
  extinguished, and she will forever hold a cherished place in the
  hearts of those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dedré Plesshette
  Jefferson and extend deepest condolences to all those who mourn her
  passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dedré
  Plesshette Jefferson.
