R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas has long made a |
|
|
positive difference in the lives of countless youth and their |
|
|
families; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Part of the nation's largest dropout prevention |
|
|
network, CIS of Texas was established in Houston in 1979, and |
|
|
through the years it has expanded to include 28 programs throughout |
|
|
the state that annually serve more than 93,000 at-risk youth in 942 |
|
|
schools; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This notable organization works to create |
|
|
partnerships with local school districts, businesses, and |
|
|
communities in an effort to provide critical services to students |
|
|
at risk of dropping out; of the thousands of participants served by |
|
|
CIS during the 2015-2016 school year, 92 percent improved classroom |
|
|
behavior, 99 percent stayed in school, and 95 percent were promoted |
|
|
to the next grade; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Helping young Texans to prepare for successful |
|
|
futures, Communities In Schools of Texas is a program of |
|
|
immeasurable importance, and it is indeed appropriate to take this |
|
|
opportunity to commend the group for the support it provides to |
|
|
students in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 8, 2017, as Communities In |
|
|
Schools Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for CIS of Texas as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
