R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The City of Nacogdoches lost an esteemed leader with
  the death of former mayor A. L. Mangham on November 22, 2016, at the
  age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Nacogdoches County to Alonzo Livingston
  Mangham Sr. and Gladys Skeeters Mangham on December 17, 1922, A. L.
  Mangham enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1939; two years later, he was
  stationed at the Boston Navy Yard when he heard the news of the
  attack on Pearl Harbor, and he went on to serve in the 4th Marine
  Division as a navy corpsman, tending to his wounded comrades; he
  took part in two combat landings in the South Pacific, earning a
  Silver Star and Purple Heart; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Mangham continued to serve in the military
  following the war, and he retired after 24 years; in the 1960s, he
  returned to Nacogdoches and began a career in banking that
  eventually led to his becoming CEO and president of Fredonia State
  Bank; and
         WHEREAS, For 13 years in the 1970s and early 1980s,
  Mr. Mangham served as mayor of Nacogdoches, and he played a crucial
  role in supporting the city's economic development and in
  maintaining a business-friendly environment; he provided crucial
  assistance in the reopening of the Hotel Fredonia and in the
  development of Lake Nacogdoches, and he was a founding board member
  of Nacogdoches Medical Center; in recognition of his leadership,
  the A. L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport was named in his honor; and
         WHEREAS, Dedicated to his country and his community, A. L.
  Mangham lived his life with integrity and with an unwavering
  commitment to serving his fellow citizens, and he leaves behind a
  legacy of good works that will forever inspire all who had the good
  fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of A. L. Mangham and
  extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Nancy Mangham; to his children, Craig Mangham, Cheri McGuire and
  her husband, Joe, and Christi Mangham; to his stepchildren, Arthur
  Speck Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, and Virginia Amason and her
  husband, Bert; to his grandsons, Christopher and Aaron; to his
  stepgrandchildren, Cathryn, Arthur, Emily, Edith, and Gilbert; to
  his nephew, Charles; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of A. L.
  Mangham.
