R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The observance of Run, Ride & Share Day on February |
|
|
7, 2017, provides a fitting opportunity for citizens across the |
|
|
state to acknowledge the importance of safety on our roadways; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Run, Ride & Share began in April 2014 in McAllen as |
|
|
an awareness campaign to encourage runners, cyclists, and motorists |
|
|
to safely share the city's streets and highways; in the years since |
|
|
its inception, the program has expanded to reach surrounding Texas |
|
|
communities with this important message; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through education in local schools, the placement of |
|
|
emergency call boxes on hike-and-bike trails, and the distribution |
|
|
of informational material, Run, Ride & Share has provided citizens |
|
|
with a range of lifesaving tools; the campaign also hosts the |
|
|
international Ride of Silence event each year to reaffirm cyclists' |
|
|
rights to public roadways and to honor cyclists who have been killed |
|
|
or injured; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The notable achievements and ongoing efforts of this |
|
|
outstanding campaign have made the roadways of the Lone Star State |
|
|
safer places for all Texans, and it is a pleasure to join in |
|
|
supporting this worthy cause; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 7, 2017, as Run, Ride & Share |
|
|
Day. |
