R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A distinguished career in public service and
  academia drew to a close with the death of Robert D. Auerbach of
  Bethesda, Maryland, on January 20, 2017, at the age of 88; and
         WHEREAS, Robert Auerbach was born in Chicago on December 2,
  1928; he earned a degree in economics at Roosevelt College and went
  on to complete a master's degree and Ph.D. in economics at the
  University of Chicago, under the tutelage of the famed economist
  Milton Friedman; and
         WHEREAS, Early in his academic career, Dr. Auerbach worked
  for several colleges and universities in Illinois, Kansas, and
  Virginia before joining the faculty of American University, where
  he rose to full professor; while living in Washington, D.C., he also
  served as an economist for the Federal Reserve System, the House of
  Representatives Committee on Banking, Finance, and Urban Affairs,
  and the Department of the Treasury; and
         WHEREAS, Professor Auerbach taught at the University of
  California-Riverside from 1983 until 1993, when he returned to
  Washington to serve for six years as an economist for the House
  Committee on Banking and Financial Services; he was the author of
  four well-regarded books and dozens of scholarly articles, and for
  the final 18 years of his career, he served as a professor of public
  affairs at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The
  University of Texas at Austin, where he earned the deep respect and
  lasting affection of his colleagues and his students; he retired
  from UT in May 2016 and was subsequently named a professor emeritus;
  and
         WHEREAS, In his leisure, Dr. Auerbach enjoyed taking long
  walks with his wife, Linda, with whom he shared 45 years, and he
  also loved spending time with his two children, Donald and Kathryn;
  and
         WHEREAS, Bob Auerbach was a devoted family man, a
  well-respected scholar, and a consummate gentleman, and he leaves
  behind a record of achievement his loved ones can remember with
  pride; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert D. Auerbach
  and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Linda Auerbach; to his son, Donald Auerbach, and his wife,
  Courtney Hagen; to his daughter, Kathryn Crandlemire, and her
  husband, Erik; to his granddaughter, Charlotte Crandlemire; and to
  his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bob
  Auerbach.
