R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist |
|
|
Church in Houston are celebrating the 55th anniversary of their |
|
|
church's founding on February 26, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in February 1962 by Louis Blount Jr. and |
|
|
five charter members, Good Samaritan MBC held its first services on |
|
|
March 11 at its sanctuary on Cavalcade Street; the congregation was |
|
|
led by Pastor Louis Blount Jr. for nearly half a century before its |
|
|
current pastor, Bishop Lester E. Blount Sr., assumed the pulpit in |
|
|
2010; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions, |
|
|
the members of this notable house of worship have established a |
|
|
variety of commendable programs that foster fellowship and offer |
|
|
help to those in need, including hospital and nursing home |
|
|
ministries and the annual "Share the Warmth" blanket drive; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Countless Houston residents have looked to Good |
|
|
Samaritan MBC for spiritual guidance over the years, and it is a |
|
|
pleasure to join in honoring the church at this special time in its |
|
|
rich history; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Good |
|
|
Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church and extend to its members |
|
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
