R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Bringing an unforgettable season to a triumphant
  close, the DeSoto High School boys' basketball team captured the
  2016 University Interscholastic League 6A state championship on
  March 12 at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and
         WHEREAS, Under the guidance of head coach Chris Dyer and
  assistant coaches George Golden, Steve Pinchback, and James
  Williams, the Eagles posted an impressive 28-2 win-loss record in
  the regular season to secure a berth in the playoffs; during their
  postseason run, they dispatched formidable teams from Euless
  Trinity, Carrollton Hebron, Justin Northwest, Lubbock Coronado,
  and South Grand Prairie High Schools to advance to the state
  tournament; and
         WHEREAS, After defeating Cibolo Steele High School 58-53 in a
  hard-fought semifinal matchup, DeSoto faced off against undefeated
  Humble Atascocita High School in a battle for the crown; benefiting
  from a strong defense and a second-quarter offensive surge, DeSoto
  went into halftime with a commanding lead, and the squad continued
  its dominance in the second half to seal a 73-54 victory and clinch
  the school's third state title; senior Tristen Wallace was named
  the championship game's most valuable player, and he was joined on
  the All-Tournament Team by senior Marques Bolden; and
         WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Eagles also
  received valuable contributions throughout the year from the other
  members of the roster: Julian Miranda, Jordan Berry, Swahn Gibson,
  Joe McFail, Morris Coe, Jarius Roberson, Chase Winchester, Brandon
  Butler, Devonte Williams, and Brendon Rushing; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the goal of every
  high school athlete; the hard work and skill demonstrated by the
  DeSoto High players have enabled them to realize that dream, and
  they will treasure the memory of this outstanding accomplishment
  for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the DeSoto High School boys'
  basketball team on winning the 2016 UIL 6A state championship and
  extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
