R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Students from Goose Creek Consolidated Independent
  School District took home multiple awards from the National History
  Day contest, held in College Park, Maryland, June 12-16, 2016; and
         WHEREAS, Continuing the district's long tradition of success
  in the competition, Benjamin Warford-Johnston of Gentry Junior High
  School won first place in the junior division individual paper
  category with his historical paper titled "American Colonial
  Committees of Correspondence: Encountering Oppression, Exploring
  Unity, and Exchanging Visions of the Future"; and
         WHEREAS, Danielle Garcia and Priscilla Garcia, students at
  Ross S. Sterling High School, placed second in the nation for their
  senior group exhibit, "WWII Women Air Force Service Pilots:
  Exchanging Traditional Roles, Exploring Military Aviation and
  Encountering Discrimination"; their exhibit was also selected by
  Texas History Day coordinators to be displayed at the American
  History Museum in Washington, D. C.; and
         WHEREAS, Tomas de la Rosa of Ross S. Sterling High earned
  third place for his senior historical paper, "An Alien Race That
  Should be Segregated Socially: Mendez v. Westminster," and two
  other Sterling students, Kyleigh Fanning and Matthew Broussard,
  received the George Washington Leadership in History Award for
  their senior group documentary, From Confederation to Nation;
  moreover, the Legacy Award for outstanding past and present
  accomplishments in the competition was given to Mr. Broussard, who
  won individual performance first-place prizes at National History
  Day in 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Havi Nguyen of Ross S. Sterling also made an
  impressive showing in the senior individual exhibit category,
  further adding to Goose Creek CISD students' many achievements at
  the event; and
         WHEREAS, These talented young men and women demonstrated
  outstanding intelligence and resourcefulness with their stellar
  performance at National History Day, and they have brought
  tremendous pride to their families, to their schools, and to the
  State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Benjamin Warford-Johnston,
  Danielle Garcia, Priscilla Garcia, Tomas de la Rosa, Kyleigh
  Fanning, Matthew Broussard, and Havi Nguyen on their superb efforts
  at the 2016 National History Day competition and extend to them
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
  for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
  of Representatives.
