H.R. No. 468

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Dr. Sharmila Dissanaike is being recognized with the Medicine Award by the YWCA of Lubbock at its annual Women of Excellence awards ceremony on March 9, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Created in 1989, the Women of Excellence awards honor individuals for their contributions as leaders and volunteers, highlighting the vital roles that women play in civic and professional endeavors in the Lubbock area; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Dissanaike is the Peter C. Canizaro Chair of the Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center; in addition, she is the medical director of the John A. Griswold Level 1 Trauma Center and assistant director of the Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center; as a clinical surgeon, she focuses on critical care, trauma, and burns, and she is a site surveyor and member of the Verification Committee for the American Burn Association; she serves the American College of Surgeons as an Ethics Committee member, as state vice chair of the Committee on Trauma, and as president of the North Texas Chapter; and

WHEREAS, With her receipt of a Women of Excellence award, Sharmila Dissanaike joins an elite group of women who have been honored by the YWCA of Lubbock, and she is indeed a worthy role model for this and future generations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Sharmila Dissanaike on receiving a 2017 Women of Excellence award from the YWCA of Lubbock and that she be extended sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Dissanaike as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
