R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The residents of Lewisville lost an admired civic |
|
leader with the passing of city council member Leroy Vaughn on |
|
February 1, 2017, at the age of 70; and |
|
WHEREAS, Leroy Vaughn graduated with a bachelor's degree in |
|
political science and business from the University of North Texas |
|
and a master's degree in public affairs from The University of Texas |
|
at Austin; he subsequently enjoyed a career with the City of Davis, |
|
California, that spanned nearly two decades, working as a |
|
firefighter, fire inspector, arson investigator, and building |
|
inspector; and |
|
WHEREAS, After relocating to Lewisville, Mr. Vaughn served |
|
the community as a member of the Transportation Board, the |
|
Community Development Block Grants Advisory Committee, and the 2010 |
|
Goals Committee, and he also volunteered as a benefits counselor |
|
for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Vaughn was elected as the Place 1 representative |
|
on the Lewisville City Council in 2011, and during his time in |
|
office, he held the positions of mayor pro tem and deputy mayor pro |
|
tem; moreover, he represented the municipal government in the |
|
National League of Cities, where he was a member of the Finance, |
|
Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations Steering |
|
Committee, and he was appointed to the Emergency Preparedness |
|
Planning Council for the North Central Texas Council of |
|
Governments; in addition to his work as a public official, he was |
|
the owner of Voninamillion Home Solutions, a real estate investment |
|
company; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his community, Leroy Vaughn made |
|
a meaningful difference in the lives of his fellow citizens, and his |
|
achievements will be a continuing source of inspiration to all who |
|
had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Leroy |
|
Vaughn and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leroy |
|
Vaughn. |
