R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Creative Corrections Education Foundation has |
|
helped provide an educational lifeline to many young people in the |
|
Beaumont-Port Arthur area who are considered at risk; and |
|
WHEREAS, CCEF grants scholarships to children of |
|
incarcerated or paroled parents or legal guardians and to students |
|
in financial hardship who wish to pursue higher education or |
|
vocational training; and |
|
WHEREAS, In June 2015, the foundation established the Right |
|
Path Program to assist the growing population of unemployed Golden |
|
Triangle residents in acquiring the skills, education, and other |
|
tools necessary for gaining meaningful employment; the initiative |
|
helps young adults, typically between the ages of 18 and 27, by |
|
providing financial aid for enrollment at the Lamar Institute of |
|
Technology, where they can earn an associate degree or trade |
|
certificate; and |
|
WHEREAS, In keeping with its motto, "Education Versus |
|
Incarceration," the Creative Corrections Education Foundation has |
|
worked to break the cycle of poverty that affects disadvantaged |
|
young people, and the organization is indeed deserving of special |
|
recognition for its significant efforts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend the Creative Corrections Education |
|
Foundation on its service to the people of Southeast Texas and |
|
extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
