R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Angelisa Rendon has been named the 2017 Youth of the
  Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg Rio Grande Valley and the
  South Texas Area Council; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Rendon was selected from among the nearly 5,500
  members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV on January 14, and
  she advanced in the competition to be named the South Texas Youth of
  the Year by STAC on February 4; she remains in the running for
  state, regional, and national Youth of the Year honors; and
         WHEREAS, Recognized for her exemplary leadership skills,
  scholastic accomplishments, and volunteer service, this
  outstanding young Texan has been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs
  for four years, giving freely of her time and energies to the
  organization's activities, including the junior staff and
  community volunteer programs, and serving as an inspiring role
  model for her peers; through her regular attendance at club
  training sessions, she has gained valuable perspective on issues
  facing teens in her community; and
         WHEREAS, A senior at the South Texas Business, Education &
  Technology Academy, Ms. Rendon holds membership in the Texas
  Association of Future Educators and participates in the Educators
  Rising program; she also volunteers at the local PAWS shelter; and
         WHEREAS, Angelisa Rendon has distinguished herself as a vital
  and valued member of her community, and her remarkable achievements
  thus far point the way to an even brighter future; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Angelisa Rendon on her selection as
  the 2017 Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg Rio
  Grande Valley and the South Texas Area Council and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Rendon as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
