R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Aneel Damaraju has been named a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in the science category; and

WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholars program was established to reward local students who have demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; and

WHEREAS, A senior at W. B. Ray High School, Mr. Damaraju is ranked fourth in his class of 477 students, with an impressive grade point average of 4.79; passionate about science, he is the founder and captain of his school's Science Bowl team, which he led to a regional victory; he also helped establish Mission FitPossible, a wellness program that he currently serves as president, and he has contributed to a number of medical research papers and national conference presentations; moreover, he is an Eagle Scout as well as an accomplished pianist who has performed at Carnegie Hall five times; after graduation, he plans to study engineering in college; and

WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Aneel Damaraju on his selection as a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Damaraju as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
