R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Texas chapter of the National
  Association of Social Workers are gathering at the State Capitol on
  March 6, 2017, to celebrate Texas Social Work Day; and
         WHEREAS, The largest group of mental health care providers in
  the United States, social workers labor in government agencies,
  schools, universities, social service offices, community centers,
  military bases, and health care facilities to meet the needs of the
  most vulnerable members of our society; they help individuals
  overcome physical disability, substance abuse, and issues such as
  depression and anxiety, and they comfort and assist the survivors
  of war, conflict, and natural disasters; in addition, they have
  advocated for years on behalf of the rights of women, African
  Americans, Latinos, members of the LGBTQ community, those who are
  disabled, and people of various ethnic, cultural, and religious
  groups; and
         WHEREAS, Across the nation, social workers are celebrating
  March as Social Work Month, under the theme "Social Workers Stand
  Up!" and on March 21, they are commemorating World Social Work Day,
  with the theme "Promoting Community and Environmental
  Sustainability"; and
         WHEREAS, Members of one of the fastest-growing professions in
  the nation, social workers dedicate themselves every day to
  serving, protecting, and advocating on behalf of millions of their
  fellow Americans, and they may indeed take great pride in their
  mission of compassion and empowerment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 6, 2017, as Texas Social Work
  Day and extend to the visiting social workers sincere best wishes
  for an informative and enjoyable event.
