R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable Nick Dixon, mayor of Mont Belvieu, was
  named the 2016 Person of the Year by the West Chambers County
  Chamber of Commerce at the chamber's 32nd annual awards banquet;
  and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan served as a Mont Belvieu city
  council member for a total of seven years before filling the vacant
  mayoral office in April 2004; since that time, he has won election
  to five consecutive terms, making him the longest-serving mayor in
  the city's history; like all members of the city council, he serves
  on that body without compensation; and
         WHEREAS, During Mayor Dixon's tenure, the population of Mont
  Belvieu has tripled, and in 2013, the community successfully
  transitioned from being a general law city to a home rule city;
  moreover, a wave of industrial expansion, which is expected to
  increase the city's tax base by an estimated $5 billion, has
  occurred on his watch; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mayor Dixon enjoys the love
  and encouragement of his wife of 42 years, Loretta, his daughter,
  Jennifer, and her husband, Antonio, and three granddaughters,
  Abigail, Leah, and Julia; and
         WHEREAS, The selfless efforts of community leaders help to
  improve the lives of their fellow citizens, and through his nearly
  two decades of service to the citizens of Mont Belvieu, Nick Dixon
  has indeed contributed to the well-being of many in Chambers
  County; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Mayor Nick Dixon on his selection
  as the 2016 Person of the Year by the West Chambers County Chamber
  of Commerce and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Dixon as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
