R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Sandra Thompson has rendered exceptional service to |
|
her community as an educator, and she is indeed deserving of |
|
recognition for her many accomplishments; and |
|
WHEREAS, Having grown up with a brother who has a disability, |
|
Sandra Thompson was inspired to pursue a career that would allow her |
|
to help other families like her own; after earning her master's |
|
degree in special education in 1992, she became a special education |
|
teacher at Fredericksburg High School, and in 1994, she |
|
transitioned to Reagan High School, where she taught Life Skills, a |
|
program to aid students with intellectual disabilities and autism; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Thompson joined the staff at Pflugerville |
|
Elementary School in 1998, and in the years since, she has taught in |
|
a variety of areas there, including Life Skills, Resource and |
|
Inclusion programs, and fourth-grade general education; for the |
|
past five years, she has helped lead the school's Pegasus Program, |
|
an early childhood development course that prepares preschool |
|
students for kindergarten; and |
|
WHEREAS, For her outstanding achievements, Ms. Thompson was |
|
named Pflugerville Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2003, and she |
|
has also been awarded five grants from the Junior League of Austin; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Sandra Thompson has greatly benefited students |
|
within the Pflugerville community and across the Lone Star State |
|
through her steadfast dedication to ensuring that every child |
|
receives the education that he or she deserves, and she has garnered |
|
the lasting respect and admiration of countless people along the |
|
way; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Sandra Thompson for her notable endeavors |
|
in behalf of her students and her lasting contributions to public |
|
education in Texas; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Thompson as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
