R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2016 marked the 65th anniversary of the |
|
founding of López Handy Stop in Robstown; and |
|
WHEREAS, This convenience store was established in June 1951 |
|
by Manuel B. López, and in the ensuing years, nine additional |
|
locations were opened in Robstown, Three Rivers, and San Diego, |
|
Texas; dedicated to keeping the company a family business, |
|
Mr. López eventually entrusted the stores to his children; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2013, the founder's grandson Hector M. López Jr. |
|
relocated from San Antonio after a career as a mortician to become |
|
the store's third-generation owner; the younger Mr. López spent |
|
much of his adolescence working at the stores, where he learned |
|
every aspect of the business, from stocking and inventory to |
|
bookkeeping and payroll; today, he proudly continues his family's |
|
legacy in the Robstown community, and López Handy Stop employs a |
|
staff of eight; and |
|
WHEREAS, Locally owned and operated businesses play a vital |
|
role in the prosperity of the Lone Star State, and those enterprises |
|
that build a record of dependability and longevity enjoy a special |
|
degree of esteem in their communities; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 65th anniversary of López Handy |
|
Stop and extend to Hector López and his staff sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. López as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
