R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of joyful times and meaningful |
|
accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends of Joe |
|
Allen Melton of Dallas, who passed away on February 3, 2017, at the |
|
age of 87; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe Melton was born in Krum on July 18, 1929, the |
|
third of 13 children, to Roy and Ruth Melton; an alumnus of |
|
Whitesboro High School and the University of North Texas, he |
|
answered his nation's call to duty as a member of the U.S. Army in |
|
1951; after completing a tour in the Korean War, during which he saw |
|
combat at the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge, he served for six years in |
|
the reserve before retiring with the rank of corporal in 1958; he |
|
went on to enjoy a career with the Texas Department of |
|
Transportation, where he worked as a right-of-way agent for 33 |
|
years until his retirement in 1991; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Melton shared nearly six and a half decades of |
|
matrimony with his wife, the former Virginia Gomez; over the years, |
|
the couple were blessed with a fine family that grew to include |
|
three children, Laura Robles, Philip Melton and his wife, Kelley, |
|
and Lydia Crossley and her husband, Ben, as well as five |
|
grandchildren, Alicia, Diana, Keli, Olivia, and Nathan, and four |
|
great-grandsons, Jacob, Aidan, Carson, and William; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Melton was a valued |
|
congregant of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, which he |
|
served as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the finance |
|
committee, and a volunteer for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul; |
|
in his leisure time, he delighted in sharing his passion for trains |
|
with his grandchildren, and he also loved listening to good music |
|
and adding new jazz and classical albums to his extensive record |
|
collection; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe Melton lived a rich and purposeful life centered |
|
on his faith, his family, and his community, and he leaves behind a |
|
legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the good fortune to |
|
know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Joe Allen Melton and |
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and to his |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe Melton. |
