R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Proud residents of Victoria and Calhoun Counties are |
|
gathering in Austin on March 8, 2017, to celebrate Golden Crescent |
|
Day at the State Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, This year's event is being presented by the Victoria |
|
and Port Lavaca Chambers of Commerce, two noteworthy organizations |
|
that are dedicated to promoting growth and economic development in |
|
their communities; both support activities and functions to |
|
strengthen and expand the relationships that make the Golden |
|
Crescent region an important contributor to the prosperity of the |
|
State of Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Victoria County greatly benefits from such |
|
industries as agribusiness, petrochemicals, and tourism; moreover, |
|
the city of Victoria is an educational and cultural hub for the |
|
Coastal Bend, and the region's vibrant heritage is showcased by |
|
such attractions as the Museum of the Coastal Bend and by the |
|
Romanesque Revival architecture of the Victoria County Courthouse; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Blessed with abundant resources and a colorful |
|
history, Calhoun County has approximately 560 miles of coastline, |
|
and its economy is supported by marine construction, manufacturing, |
|
and the petroleum industry; residents and visitors alike may enjoy |
|
a number of annual activities and events, including the Calhoun |
|
County Fair, the Flip Flop Festival and BBQ by the Bay, and Market |
|
Days in Port Lavaca; and |
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Victoria and Calhoun Counties are |
|
confidently facing the future while continuing to embrace their |
|
rich past, and they may take great pride in the significant role the |
|
Golden Crescent region continues to play in the story of the Lone |
|
Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 8, 2017, as Golden Crescent Day |
|
at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere |
|
best wishes for an informative and enjoyable stay in Austin. |
