R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Curtis W. Mewbourne of Tyler is being inducted into |
|
the Petroleum Hall of Fame on May 9, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Petroleum Hall of Fame, established in 1967 by |
|
the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland, recognizes |
|
individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the |
|
development of the petroleum industry or who have inspired others |
|
through their achievements, service, or strength of character; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Mr. Mewbourne |
|
earned a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering from the |
|
University of Oklahoma and went on to found the Mewbourne Oil |
|
Company in 1965; in the 52 years since its establishment, the |
|
company has drilled more than 1,000 wells in the Permian Basin and |
|
another 1,400 in the Anadarko Basin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to improving quality of life in the wider |
|
community, Mr. Mewbourne has generously donated to a number of |
|
crucial educational initiatives; he funded the Mewbourne Hall of |
|
Mathematics and Science at All Saints Episcopal School in Tyler and |
|
at St. John's School in Houston, and he endowed a professorship and |
|
seven chairs in petroleum engineering at the University of |
|
Oklahoma; he has also served on the boards of several civic and |
|
charitable organizations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Curtis Mewbourne has distinguished himself as a |
|
highly effective leader in an industry that is a crucial part of the |
|
Texas economy, and his accomplishments indeed merit special |
|
recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Curtis W. Mewbourne on his |
|
induction into the Petroleum Hall of Fame and extend to him sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Mewbourne as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
